Core Lay Down CradleOnce the core is cut into the twenty foot lengths of the TSS system, the core is attached to a lay down cradle. The lay down cradle ensures the length of core remains rigid as it is moved to the catwalk and/or core processing site. Without a proper lay down cradle, the core is susceptible to bending and suffers mechanical damage which could render the core useless.
The dimension of the cradle is specific to the TSS system and provides the means to transport the core to the processing site and efficiently move the core through a wellsite cutting saw. The lower end of the lay down cradle is fitted with a base plate to house and protect the shear boot. The upper end of the cradle utilizes a dog collar clamp which latches the core in tapered notches. This allows the core to be safely and quickly locked into the cradle without requiring personnel to be hoisted up the derrick. The length of core is supported by teflon rollers which provide flexure support and allow the core to be moved across the saw for cutting. The core and cradle is moved via a four-point lift which is certified for onshore and offshore operations. |
